To the Barricades

There is an article in the San Francisco Chronicle today that tells of colleges and universities that are offering older, tenured professors cash to retire. The average pay of a tenured professor is $117,000 and replacement instructors earn $52,500. These teachers actually seem to make out pretty well as they may get up to two years pay and their pension to leave their jobs. There are many more workers who are cut loose without anything or are suffering a reduction in hours as a sacrifice on the altar of corporate profits. This, along with the trend to make Social Security available at later and later dates, is going to make many in their fifties and sixties a permanent underclass. It is time for revolt.
